PPP. SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE. RESEARCH

Ethics, also known as moral philosophy, is a branch of philosophy that involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts of right and wrong behaviour.
Major areas of study in ethics may be divided into 3 operational areas:
  • Meta-ethics, about the theoretical meaning and reference of moral propositions and how their truth values (if any) may be determined;
  • Normative ethics, about the practical means of determining a moral course of action;
  • Applied ethics, about how moral outcomes can be achieved in specific situation

This poster is hilarious! Funny but truthful, Frank Chimero has totally hit the mark with his punchy posters. The importance of design is something that I’ve been contemplating ever since deciding to be a graphic designer. I’ve been aimlessly trying to find the meaning, the benefit. It seems so frivilous to spend my days worrying about letter spacing, fonts, and screens of PMS colors when there are people starving in Africa, homeless folks, citizens without healthcare, and people fighting the war in Iraq. At the end of the day, will what I do make a difference?
I want to make a positive mark on society, not contribute to its downfall. Much of what designers do is promoting/advertising/selling the clients’ products or services. We design things to the best of our ability to entice consumers to buy things they don’t really need. Not to mention the countless waste that incurs with the field of design: paper proofs, toxic inks, power to run technological devices, etc.
behind design. Wondering if what i do will make a difference and hoping that design really does matter.
Don’t get me wrong-i LOVE being a designer. I get to be creative and have the satisfaction of knowing that I am producing my own work. I get to see a project through from start to finish, which is awesome! This need to create is embedded deep within me, and I can’t imagine doing anything else for a living. But I can’t help but find my conscience pondering the ethics

I sent out an e-mail to second years so the studio ethics would be informed by this years second year opinion.

Ethics

We expect our suppliers to maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct. Our Supplier Code of Conduct clearly states a range of practices we consider essential to running an ethical business.

Ethics & Compliance
The core of the ethics and compliance program at The Coca-Cola Company is our Code of Business Conduct. The Code guides our business conduct, requiring honesty and integrity in all matters. All of our associates and directors are required to read and understand the Code and follow its precepts in the workplace and larger community.
The Code is administered by our Ethics & Compliance Committee. This cross-functional senior management team oversees all our ethics and compliance programs and determines Code violations and discipline. Our Ethics & Compliance Office has operational responsibility for education, consultation, monitoring and assessment related to the Code of Business Conduct and compliance issues. Associates worldwide receive a variety of ethics and compliance training courses administered by the Ethics & Compliance Office. We regularly monitor and audit our business to ensure compliance with the Code and the law. We also maintain a consistent set of best-in-class standards around the world that govern how we investigate and handle Code issues. In 2008, we revised the Code to further improve its effectiveness.
More than 20,000 associates completed more than 30,000 in-person and web-based Ethics and Compliance training sessions from August 2007 through June 2008. All associates will receive in-person Code of Business Conduct training in 2008. We trained associates on the Code of Business Conduct, European Union competition law, Latin American competition law, financial integrity, intellectual property and competitive intelligence, drug-free workplace and preventing workplace violence.
In 2006, we rolled out an updated global anti-bribery compliance program with supporting policies, training and audits. In addition, we expanded our compliance program around United States trade sanctions with supporting policies, training and audits.
Our associates, bottling partners, suppliers, customers and consumers can ask questions about our Code and other ethics and compliance issues, or report potential violations, through EthicsLine, a global Web and telephone information and reporting service. Telephone calls are toll-free, and EthicsLine is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with translators available.

Top 10 Creative Rules of Thumb

1. The best way to get great ideas is to get lots of ideas and throw the bad ones away. 2. Create ideas that are 15 minutes ahead of their time...not light years ahead. 3. Always look for a second right answer. 4. If at first you don't succeed, take a break. 5. Write down your ideas before you forget them. 6. If everyone says you are wrong, you're one step ahead. If everyone laughs at you, you're two steps ahead. 7. The answer to your problem "pre-exists." You need to ask the right question to reveal the answer. 8. When you ask a dumb question, you get a smart answer. 9. Never solve a problem from its original perspective.
10. Visualize your problem as solved before solving it.

My initial idea was to create mugs with studio ethic rules, but now I keep thinking that I don't have the time and James might not have the right stock to print on because it's the end of the year. I'm going to have a laser cut induction tomorrow so I might do something laser cut, a poster tho that would be the dullest thing to make. maybe a key accessory? Might help, something that the first years could take with them and have all the time, or maybe a ruler. I know I want it to be an object.
